I don't think anyone is implying that when somebody takes 'pride' in their culture they are taking credit for it. The most autistically strict definition of the word might suggest that, but I think it's more just a case of sloppy semantics.

So let's replace the word 'pride' with 'respect' and see how that pans out logically. "I have lots of respect for the legacy of european culture! I am a member of that culture, and though I didn't personally conquer the world and invent microchips, I'm glad to be a part of such a great legacy no matter how insignificant my part."

And anyway if you're going to be logically consistent about bashing pride, might as well go around mocking sports fans for wearing jerseys and sportswear. You're not a member of the team, you're just a fat slob, but you sit there in the stands telling them to play defense? Proud of your favorite team? Fuck you!

Yes, you're exactly right if by "most autistically strict definition" you mean "English definition" and if by "no matter how insignificant my part" you mean "I didn't do shit and I deserve no credit whatsoever." Yes, pride in your favorite sports team is also a misnomer. I can go buy an SF Giants cap tomorrow, but I don't share in the credit for the series win. I couldn't hit a major league curve ball or catch a line drive or steal a base. I'd probably get a fucking concussion if I tried.

Every statement, every phrase, has a context, which is what gives that symbolic statement its real, actual, functional, contextual meaning. For example, in certain non Western cultures, the symbol of the swastika (as we call it) has a completely unrelated meaning due to a completely unrelated context of its usage as a symbol, and that context we call culture, or history, or, plain out intention.

This is the general argument of those who say it's "different" depending on if you are white or black: different contexts, etcetera.

But that is not my point. My point is, your own question needs context. Why do you ask this question?

Are you a sociologist?

Are you a white pride enthusiast seeking companionship?

Are you a troll?

Are you a black person working through your blackness and whatever that means in this crazy, messed up world of ours?

Are you well-hung?

These all are needed before I answer any random question.
