How to run your own EQemu server?

Hi guys,

I'm curious about running my own emulated server. I Google searched the topic and came up with some information, but not sure what is out of date, etc.

Does anyone have a good resource? I would be interested in trying to run a more classic era server, very similar to P99.

I'm in sales, so I unfortunately don't know a lot about databases, servers etc.

Thank you folks! :D

eqemulator.net is where you want to go, in their windows server forums they have a step by step guide

by the way the stock database is very far off from classic, it will take loads of work if you want to make it classic

If you have to google the topic then running an emu server won't be for you. Let alone a classic one.

As furniture said, the amount of work these folks have put into making our server classic is huge. The eqemulator.net databases don't even come close.

Why would you want the headache of running your own server anyway? Just pick one and play!

I wanted it more for exploring areas that would otherwise be a pain to get to, locked areas, keyed areas. Checking out gear, playing with different classes etc. Sort of my own sandbox.

This is kind of a crappy response. If you have this attitude with everything in life, you'll never learn anything. It's completely feasible to follow the Windows setup guide and dive into the code and actually learn some C++/SQL/etc along the way. It'll just be a lot of work.

No one says you have to put in all the time/research to implement your own classic database. P99 & EQClassic pretty much have that niche on lockdown. There's a ton of possibilities with custom servers though.

If you want a server to fuck around on, there's a server some guy runs called The Sandbox. Apparently you can message him for the GM commands to warp around and stuff to check shit out.

Why is my response crappy? He clearly states he wants to run a classic server. I was merely pointing out that it would be a VERY long road with no knowledge of coding, databases, etc...

If you want to sandbox classic anything you won't be doing it with a stock eqemu download.
