Nah any other time this has happened here or on other servers the loot / exp stays. It's just the world server.

Last time this happened. I tried to cast Gate while still in a hostile area. When I logged back on I was dead since with the world server down it doesn't actually try and gate you I guess. So I wouldn't suggest casting gate in the middle of whatever camp you are in.
