Autofire and FTE. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

As many are probably aware often the loot from raid mobs goes to the guild who gets first to engage. This discussions is specifically targetted towards using out of game software either from your operating system, 3rd party, or special keyboars to try and get FTE on raid mobs by using autofire.

GM/devs - Is autofire allowed? If yes are there rules on when or how it can be used? If no is it enforced?

The only info I could find was a response from Utgaard a while back making it sound like it was not ok to use it while afk.

Some mght ask "Is this mechanic classic?" Well that depends on the server you played on. The Mac client has a built in autofire. You simply hold a button down and abilities fire off as soon as they refresh such as ranged attack for rangers. However the PC client did not function the same way.

The problem is that people can be afk autofire spamming on top of a raid mobs spawn to try and get FTE.

Hello,

I'm a returning EverQuest player and I have a question about using the program AutoHotkey to play EverQuest. This program has a wide range of features that allow you to rebind keys on the keyboard, rebind keys to the mouse, and execute strings of keyboard strokes according to predefined patterns.

Because AutoHotkey is so powerful, it has the potential to allow 'cheating' or 'botting' through written scripts that detect what is on the screen before executing a keystroke. However, my intent is not so malicious: I would simply like to rebind mouse movements to the keyboard. I hear that if you don't use the mouse, it is actually healthier for the hand, so I thought it would be something to try for a more positive play experience. I was also considering rebinding some EverQuest functions to keystrokes near the 'home key' region.

In light of this, are we allowed to rebind keys and mouse functions with AutoHotkey at all? Or is the use of AutoHotkey forbidden?

You are correct Uthgaard weighed in back in January 2012, in response to a specific question about autofire.

Stick with Rogean and Uthgaard, Amelinda's comment isn't accurate.

As a general rule, no MMO allows any software (hardware related or not) to perform actions while you are afk. Those that do tend to turn to crap very quickly.

Just use really quick fingers and wear out some keyboards. That's classic.
I need a new F8 myself.

Since TMO is still playing here I would recommend getting a program for autofire until they either bury themselves or management changes the raid scene which desperately needs to happen.

BDA Member recommends cheating.... I'm not surprised.

As soon as one guild uses it, they'll all be using it... therefore no real advantage.
