can my old pc play this game still??
Hey so I came across an old windows 98 gaming PC and want to know if it can handle eq (project1999)
Specs - Dell optiplex gx110 Pentium iii 667 - can over clock to 800mhz if needed. 256mb ram Voodoo 3 2000 PCI 16mb Overclocked slightly 40gb hard drive Sound blaster PCI 64v Windows 98SE |
is this a PC you already own, are getting for free, or are paying for?
if paying for, how much? this pc will be able to run eq just fine. you may have issues with overclocking (other people have reported having issues with eq when overclocking, but it may not be an issue on this older pc) |
Its an old PC I had bought a long time ago to game on. (I played unreal, quake ii, half-life, also ever quest) all of those games ran nicely from what I remember. I only ask now because I noticed the system requirements changed for eq and ask for at least a 1ghz CPU 512mb ram and a direct x 9.0 video card, seems kinda high to me?....if I remember correctly the 3dfx cards are only compatible with dx8.0? Or 8.1? Not entirely sure. Looks like after I'm done redoing the hard drive I'll have to buy titanium and hope for the best!

Those new specs are for the updated textures and models. EQ classic only needs 256 mb of ram at most and much less than 1ghz processor.

You need a faster PC for Titanium.

God those specs are horrible. I mean for 98 sure but you can drive down a street and probably find a better PC sitting at someone's curb. Or go on craigslist and buy a cheap one thats like 3x better for 75 bucks. |
Confirmed up and running pretty well actually. Granted loading times are a 10-15 seconds? Other than that minor tweaks to the graphic options and it runs really smooth. I doubt it can handle newer textures or anything past velious for that matter. I'm happy. :)
BTW I do have a modern computer (3770k, 660ti, 8gb, windows 7 x64) I'd rather play it on this old computer that was of the time. Its actually the exact same PC I used back in the day to play eq! Some reason the game looks better with my voodoo 3 rather than using my newer PC with the GTX 660ti... less buggy and doesn't get random crashes like my windows 7 rig. |
Now thats a real classic player. Wants to experience all the LDs and YOU HAVE BEEN DISCONNECTED... that we all loved.
I say go for it. |
