I got that too, so on a whim i updated my .net...
I got that too, so on a whim i updated my .net framework and it just went back to the same old Error 1017...
Not sure if this will fix your problem, but it got me back to the one I've had all week,...

I agree with Bubbles; Erudites are my personal favorite for necros. They have great starting stats, some awesome newbie quests with sweet rewards, and are, in my opinion, the most interesting kind...

Big wolves, surfin skellies and mixed gems.
