I knew a guy who added caffeine to his workout shakes. He claimed it helped him go the extra length. I never took in caffeine beyond my morning coffee and I could keep up with him. I guess it depends...

Alcohol is very bad for muscle rebuilding. A glass of red wine or a beer won't be life or death but drinking hard liqueur is not good. Especially in large amounts, any of that.
