Go to bard guild, buy vendor lute (stringed), horn (brass), drum (percussion), and flute (wind). That's all the gear you need until planar. If you save up some money, pick up MM battle Drums and Gypsy lute, then 5AC/55HP rings, then banded/bronze/lambent. Bards are less gear dependent than INT casters.
