On live, the gladiators were actual GMs/players. They also had the PoSky Belt iirc.

The first part is correct. There are accounts of some servers having GMs/guides with poor Internet connections and lagging during the event, going link dead, or not turning on auto attack. In those instances the match was restarted.
I haven't run across any evidence for haste belts being put on the gladiators.
