So you would consider 2, maybe late 30s players to be a "large" "AE group". Though I guess from your point of view, that might be enough to do Nagafen.

They can easily AE the mobs because someone is obviously using low hp aggro, So no matter how much aggro they get from AEing the mobs down they will not be hit.

Low HP agro requires the player at low health to not get hit. Typically that is accomplished by kiting. In this case, they are just parking the player at low health(see Badger at 18% in 2nd screen) at a spot where the mobs cannot path to him. The mobs probably can't get onto the upper platform so they just twitch back and forth at the bottom of the ladder and never attack. That platform blocks LoS as well, so that explains why nothing casts.
This has nothing to do with AoE spells and nothing to do with agro. It is 100% just exploiting a deficiency in the pathing code for the zone in order to circumvent game mechanics / encounter design.
