You see what happened was when the settlers first landed they thought the native Americans were India Indians and everyone generally got along until they accidentally plagued them (just from different diseases in Europe vs. North America). This pissed the native peoples and they began doing guerrilla warfare against the settlers' camps. This led to a long feud and sentiment. Thanksgiving happened in the cooperative time before the plague, when the Mayflower had just landed and when the native Americans helped show the white man how to harvest the crops of the region and such.
