If you kept the first cabbage you foraged from the Karanas in an inventory slot (not bag) you would have better luck.
Long after I knew better I continued to keep it with me "just in case". The cabbage traveled with me through just about every raid zone until the end of PoP.

Did you know later this old player's tale was used tongue-in-cheek by the developers (some of whom played back then) to decide on a name for 'Protection of the Cabbage'?
