Play whatever class sounds the most fun to you. Stop trying to think about it from min/maxing stand point. You will eventually be able to get gear and you will be able to level whatever class you pick.
If you want to be able to easily solo, yes certain classes are going to be more suited towards it. Some of those classes are not
as desirable in a group. This is everquest, you don't get to have your cake and eat it too in this game, so just pick whatever seems to most fun to you and run with it!
