Allow me to respond to your inquiry here Tecmos.
Of course it's a bit more complicated, however the degree to which Red Dawn for a long while avoided PvP was excessive. I can't really blame them for most instances, but I think there were a number of times RD could have benefited from getting some PvP when the cost of a crushing defeat was low. There's something to be said about being willing to bite the bullet and eat a death in the name of putting up a good fight. On red, sometimes you gotta think with your dick instead of your brain and say "fuck it, we're here, let's do this shit" in the face of what is probably almost certain death. You never know how it might turn out, and you and your people might learn a thing or two in the process.
While it would be nice to have 3 standalone capable guilds, obviously when one of three guilds is new to the scene, you are likely to see some sort of alliance from the newcomer. I think the problem a lot of us had with the RD/Nihilum alliance is that it further stacked the odds against the standing underdog. Now certain people will say this happened because Azrael/Lite is toxic (a point which I'll address in my next response below), but that is completely ridiculous. I totally understand why it happened - the most people had the most to gain by it happening, but many people failed and still fail to acknowledge what a precarious arrangement such an alliance is. Nobody likes a blowout; you might think you do for a while, but in the end it gets fucking boring. When you join a counter-strike server and there's 12 terrorists and 8 counter-terrorists who are obviously losing, you don't join the damn terrorists. Sure, the most people have the most to gain by further stacking the odds, however, such a situation is fucking stupid. Nihilum has vast reserves of retired people they call on when the competition gets tough (though I think that reserve might be starting to fizzle out) - adding a large chunk of people to the already exceedingly winning team doesn't make for a fun pvp server.
Every big guild on both servers has a little ministry of propaganda built into them whether they mean to or not. Forumquest and such is part of the game and I of course embrace this facet of our community, however, the degree to which Lite and pals get a bad rap on here from the opposition is inordinate. This is a function merely of serving a purpose and not a truthful representation of reality. Running a guild is a lot of work and responsibility, and it of course comes with some tough decisions. In my time with Lite and pals (I've been 60 on my red monk since October and played red for some time before this) I have been perfectly happy with how everything has gone. Granted it hasn't been perfect (no experience can be), however those of you who know me know I am fast to speak against injustice, and I've never had any real cause to do so in Azrael. Red has a jaded history and much of it I didn't experience directly, but since I've been here, most of what I've seen firsthand is in direct opposition to what I had read and continue to read on these forums from those that would prefer to see a boring pvp server.
