I think the more important thing here is that Game of Thrones books are greater than the television adaption by far.
Emilia Clarke has been a terrible choice for Daenerys and the show is watered down.

While it's true that Game of Thrones can't be captured into a television show with such short seasons, at least the characters are far more believable than the ones in Vikings.

Vikings is not as well produced or scripted. It reminds me of that Sci-Fi show, Defiance. There's too many eye roll/typical moments where the content is clearly made for the average couch potato that doesn't want to have to think too hard, or think at all.

It also follows a very worn out formula of using a protagonist that's an under-dog or rebel, where they manage to out wit and out maneuver the oppressive leaders or the unfair system. By the end of the first few seasons of Spartacus and Vikings, I just wanted to see the main characters crushed into dust and the shows to end - the spoon fed 'misunderstood character with a valiant cause' nonsense became nauseating.
