that being said: the appeal is not the xp bonus
on blue, the appeal is gaining levels and items, but the catch is most people dont achieve lv 60. if you do, great, whats next? if you dont, you can have a lot of fun continuing on your journey
if you do ever happen to hit 60, you may find yourself pretty bored. waitin for raid rotation here, some items gained there.. really great fun if you have a good community raid guild
but you can have that community on red. and consider off-raid times.. never being bored at 1-60, always someone to fight, always something to do. alliances are forged, destroyed, guilds rise and fall even without the presence of raid mobs
thats the appeal of red.. its a new dimension to everquest. its not simply about "ganking playesr omg griff u die".. its interesting to see how your grind-work stacks up against another man's. it just is
