I would totally dig that, i total conversion server where you have like raid bosses guarding zones owned by guilds, where you fight for the most profitable zones, sort of an eve online hybrid. EQ so stale once nostalgia factor wears off.

Yeah kind of a cool idea. Make the PVE aspect of the game battling against NPC guards and stuff to seize territory.
I just think there are too many people here that will never be happy with an EQ classic PVP server. Redesign EQ the best you can to make it a PVP game and see what you can do...either the server will be really fun or complete shit but it'll be different for sure. Plus the cost of entry is basically nothing, but the leaderboards and PVP gear would give people stuff to "grind" if they wanted.
Maybe add automatic titles like EQ2 had? Where if you're in the top 10% you have this title, 10-20% another title, etc. Maybe the top person in points gets a special title to wear and possibly even some passive buff type benefits, who knows.
Key would be figuring out a system that doesn't reward everyone playing a wizard, need to credit points to healers properly and stuff.
