Great choice! Magicians are by far the best class in game in my slightly biased opinon.
You have your spells, behind the wizard in damages but still powerful. A pet who can tank, root, or even play wizard if it fits the occasion.
You can summon your own pet toys, food and water, bandages, mana clickies, breathing clickies..the list goes on. It really is unfair to the other classes how awesome mage really are .
Your a solo king, sure you can't kite reds in packs around the zones. But who wants to run away their whole eq career? You can flawlessly solo your way through the world and your a great asset in groups and duos as long as you pay attention to and control your pet. EQ path in is notorious for stupid flaws and between that and aggro your pet can keep you busy.
