WoW was never button mashing, even at its worst with 1 macro instant kills or 2 shotting, it was still a controlled use of abilities. AA is similar, and has an odd ability queue. If you hit one attack too many times, it will repeat that same attack and blow your combo effect, which can cost you a huge crit or an important cc. Most combo windows are 2 seconds or so, and some of the animations are longer than that window.

Since it is half time, I'll expand on this for anyone who has not played. Every attack has a combo effect which varies based on the follow up attack. A DoT may add a HoT counter on the caster if it is followed with a specific DD or turn into a mez if followed by a debuff attack. My warrior archetype would charge and triple attack, which combod for a short knockdown. Then kick which hit for 3x damage to a downed target. If I had someone low or it was a damage race fight, I could sunder and arcing slash which combod into a slightly longer knockdown and kick multiple times. As I got better I could start picking out the animations for some cast combos and using my knockdown to interrupt, since I did not have a WoW style pummel(accessed in the defense tree).
