Well for starter/turn-in quests there are a few that are excellent.

Greater Faydark/Butcherblock area:
1.) Bone Chips - Give to Gunlok Jure in Kaladim's Paladin guild hall (4 at a time not stacked) - Gives good XP, random items and faction

2.) Crushbone Belts/Shoulder Pads - Give to Canloe Nusbak in Kaladim's Warrior guild - Great XP, random items and faction

Qeynos area:
1.) Gnoll Fangs - Get gnoll fangs off the gnolls in the Qeynos Hills area and turn them in 1 at a time to Captain Tillin in the Qeynos Warriors guild. GREAT XP and faction. As well you get a moonstone that can either be sold or turned in to a merchant at an inn by the docks (cant remember which) for a little more XP and a bottle of booze.

The Bone-Chips and Crushbone Belts/Pads can be sold to other players for money. The Bone-chips sell for appx 5pp per stack of 20 while the Belts sell for 1-2pp each. The shoulder pads can sell for 3-5pp each.

Also there are always craftsmen that are looking for Spiderling silk which can sell for appx 20pp per stack of 20. The spiderling's poison is a bit overpowered so be warned but the money can be very helpful.

So there are a few quests that can get a player started with both money and XP. I am sure there are a few more but these seem to be the most popular.
