Hello to everyone, and a dumb starter cleric question

I just installed and kicked the game up last night. Thanks to the Admin! You're doing a great thing.
So on to the embarrassing and stupid question.
It seemed like everything was going right, I created a High elf Cleric and hailed my first NPC and he talked back in the way I remember and had something that was like, "something something Cleric of Tunare" in brackets.
The way I remember it was to reply with "What about <the exact phrase in brackets>? and then you'd get the quest. I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm getting no quests. It's been ten years and I'm not young. Did I misremember how that was supposed to go?
