You can probably pick up a decent set of weapons for free. You don't say what your existing character is, but if you can get to Chardok there are some "junk" weapons (like the aforementioned silver swiftblade) that you could easily get for free. Obsidian shards are essentially worthless, I'm sure if you bummed around for a while you'd get a free one.
Goblin Skull Crusher procs at level 15, and while they're somewhat rare they aren't really valuable and will hold aggro.
