Mrriverse - I agree that excessive heat isn't good for electronics... however I would never run the fireplace with the tv at the bottom position. If I ever ran the fireplace I'd just keep the tv in the top position and it really doesn't receive any heat from the fireplace there. Another thing is that I live in Southern California; I have only lit that fireplace once since I moved into this house in 2009
