Some voters are stupid, some just watch too much cable "news" channels, some just don't give a shit - too busy playing video games or watching cable tv to try to vote in good lawmakers.

The RDA is posted by the FDA or some something like that. People would need to vote in folks who could undo the jokes that make up these federal groups.

Look into aspartame to see how scientists votes can be switched by adding more members sometimes not even scientists, to match special interests, Monsanto in this case. Look into Nixon and Cannibis to see how scientists can be asked to do studies over and over and when the politicians don't like the science they just ignore it.

Look into the obesity and diebaties issues to see how clever marketing can cause the masses to walk blindly off a cliff like a herd of lemmings. You will find corn syrup in the ingredients of some odd foods, like fast food buns and frozen dinners. GMO corn syrup is super cheap and added to the salts and fats actually makes people hungry.

Don't even get me started on hydrogenated oils, which scientists now admit are the real cause of arterial disease. You can eat all the cholesterol you want, eggs, real milk from a farm, meats and nit risk heart attacks. They invented these oils so that food will take longer to spoil, adding Hugh $$ to the corporate bottom line. Think about it if bacteria can't digest this stuff, can we? No it just stick to the inside of our pipes.

I love pizza, will always eat it, but realize that it's more of a treat than a good source of nutrition. Same with fruit juice counting as a serving of fruit. Labels loudly claim this but don't mention that even the FDA ( or whoever sets the RDA ) says it can only count as one serving, need real fruit to make up the rest. They don't even bother to put it in fine print which most Americans will not read anyways.

My favorite part of aspartame is that they want to add it to milk, which is so watered down and bitter in the chain supermarkets it needs an artificial sweetener. They proposed to "change the definition of milk" so they can add it without putting it on the label. I heard this last tidbit on NPR and also foreign news so I tend to believe it.
