A lot of people play with sound off. That is about how much you need a fancy sound card. EQ sound is nothing special.

You don't need a fancy card for them, but I like the sounds in eq. Music and spell sound effects are my favorite. I can't imagine playing without sound (especially when you need to hear mobs around you that are out of camera view).
