I tend to disagree with this, I'd much rather play what I wanted to play out the gate then play a "starter" class to fund my real character later.

If you have limited play time anyway then down time and/or efficiency shouldn't be something to worry about. Any class can solo, it just depends on how much time sitting on your butt you're willing to handle.
