You could hand the eye weapons/money, for people to kill and get it. That was the exploit. You were still able to kill Eye of Zomm well in to PoP. Theres a fix in game (P99) for NPCs/Pets not to drop items/coin we give them. So no reason not to have us be able to kill them anymore. It does play a role in classic, and later. Killing a rivals guild eye of zomm who are looking for pulls/spying on your camp is just one of them.
The Eye of Zomm was also KoS to NPCS that were agro to the player. Faction was only involved,to Npcs being agro to the player. You could also invs yourself after summoning a Eye of Zomm, and the eye would take the effect of being invs, and only agro see invs npcs.
Eye of Zomm was made later to turn non agro to most npcs. The follow link shows that it had been nerfed, to non agro on or around 02-16-2002.
