I'm working on my ranger right now. Not grinding exp really hard yet though.
I'm taking a page out of Leveloneundercon's book. On this char I decided to twink pretty heavily, but to leave one aspect of the char untwinked to give me something to work towards. I picked archery. I decided not to buy anything associated with archery.
So far I've gotten my fletching up to over 160 and made my very own Trueshot Longbow. This was a significant achievement for me because my first character ever on EQ was a Ranger that I abandoned after level 3 or so. *nerd alert* I kind of see myself as a ranger in every other MMO/RPG, but I've never played one past level 10 or so in Everquest. I still remember my third or fourth day in Everquest on my nubassed ranger with my brand new notebook sitting in front of me writing down the requirements of all of the quests around--pixie dust, orc hatchets. On the list was the Trueshot longbow. I've since done all of the other quests hundreds of times over, but never the bow.
It took me 4 combines, 1 at 120 skill, 2 at 140, and one at 160, to finally get my bow. It felt AWESOME. Making my own super duper long range arrows is no problem, but quivers are so far beyond my reach. Fortunately, i have some time before quiver haste goes in and a Fleeting Quiver becomes necessary. But working tailoring has given me more than enough to do while I wait for the exp penalty to come off.
Go rangers!
