It is with much honor that I announce Black Cat Day, and I hope Catfacts from red is on hand to add to these sad but true statements.

- Fact: Black cats are less likely to be adopted at shelters. #BlackCatDay

- Fact: Fear of black cats most likely stems from folklore held over from the middle ages, when black cats were thought to be witches' familiars.

- Fact: In Japan, black cats are considered symbols of good luck, especially for single women. Owning a black cat is thought to attract potential suitors.

- Fact: Black cats can be boys or girls, but more are male than female.

- Fact: In Scotland, a strange black cat arriving at your home means you may win the jackpot! A stray black cat arriving on your doorstep signals prosperity.
