As far as tradeskills at low levels, if you happen to choose a race whose hometown guards are killed for exp you can probably snag some loot to sell to the merchants and skill up blacksmithing. I would do this if you choose a class that can wear chain armor (warrior, paladin, shadow knight, rogue, shaman, cleric, ranger). Getting blacksmithing up to the mid 100s will allow you to make a suit of banded armor. It will take you a few hours and like 150-200pp but the armor will be good through your teens... I wouldn't try to resell it other than auctioning in the zones you happen to already be Exping in. The levels you gain will enrich you far more quickly than trying to do tradeskills at a low level.

Also tradeskills are useful for several quests at higher levels.
