Well you can't play Beastlord here, so...

If you want to play a solo caster but don't want Necro, consider Mage. Not as strong a solo player as a Necro, but certainly easy enough. If you're willing to give Enchanter a shot, they can be wicked strong and solo like mad. As for grouping on those, Chanters are always super handy in groups, and mages do some nice damage (Especially with Epic Pet).

If Wis casters are your flavour, Druid if you like to move, Shaman if you don't. Shaman will get you far more groups than a druid will however.
