Hi, ok so I collected all the items that you need for the staff.
1. Heart of fire
2. Heart of Frost
3. Heart of Stone
4. Darkwood Staff
I tried handing them into Gardern in the Sol Ro temple all at once. He didn't accept them and would hand them back to me saying he didn't need them.
So then I tried handing them in seperately and the same thing happened.

Go to Lake Rathetear and get your Rod of Bone.
Heart of Stone is for a Mage Item, Earthen Boots.
