You are wrong, I was alive along with over a dozen other people. There was only 1, maybe 2 mage pets both bugged and alive.
Sounds like they may want to post a general warning that pet classes are currently unplayable in the traditional sense until they can nail down what has caused this.

It would be best if mages poofed their pets manually before they died.
Not to say that reimbursements are a bad idea, especially when no one knew the cause of this bug.
