The 2 I posted, being 1280x720 roughly 5 minutes on a 5yo intel laptop. But it varies depending on complexity of the render, slower on 3d mesh renders which jwildfire does as well. Those are actually just 2.5d above. It's not as fast as say rendering in Blender 3d, but it does the job. It only becomes a problem if you output a video file of course, with 1000's of renders. But it still renders well, compared to others I've used such as electric sheep and apophysis. Well on certain features compared to apophysis anyway, being by the same developers.
But render shmender, the fractal flame editor is he best I've come across since the early days of electric sheep, which that being still very limited on resolution today, but nice results especially into animation. This you can set mostly whatever you want on resolution. The editor is done real well though, and for a cross-platform java app. Lots of editing tools and on the fly plugin editing. Thumbnail rendering is fast though, which makes the Mutagen tool easy to fly though if mutating, and likely will be.
