It should be that simple, and for many people it is. Notice that tons of Kunark gear is selling, and as you've pointed out (correctly), much of it is selling for more than its future market value due to current scarcity.
Now look at the odd item out, the CoS. Instead of recognizing the current scarcity and negotiating a reasonable premium as a result, you're banding together to guarantee the current scarcity, then demanding an order of magnitude higher than even the inflated price of the item ought to be.
One of these is playing the market. The other is being an asshole. Don't try to pretend you're just a middle-man to an economic normality.
