not sure if it was just bow, but i was being pushed too far away to the point of not being able to cast, and the mob was pretty far away, super magic bow with knockbacks?

Underwater/swimming push
really sucks. Use levitate to (partially) compensate, and if you have a pet you could probably soak bow shots with it. (If NPCs must use collision/LOS to bow...I know PCs do.)
