Instancing missions was great, dunno what you're talking about. Form a group and go do some quests without being trained or having to listen to stupid OOC fights about camp stealing.
Vishimtar is definitely the best raid pre-DoDH. Excellent mechanics all around. Looking forward to splitting it for those eyes. YarLir is a good idea but not well executed. Similar to Adaptation trial. The constantly switching boss idea is good but it needs to be wildly different between spawns to force some sort of adjustment. For example one form should Rampage hard and do minimal damage to main tank, forcing your healers to adjust their target and then another form should Flurry hard and stop rampaging, another form should proc hard/one round tanks but not summon, etc.
Eventually they added a mechanic in Somnium 6, where the boss one rounds any plate, chain or leather wearer but does fairly minimal damage to silk wearers. So you just set up a Necromancer or Wizard to tank the boss. Great raid designs come much later in EQ.
