How did you average Clinton voter ever think up something like the NAFTA? They didn't. They might have been herded into pro-NAFTA and anti-NAFTA stances, but the vast majority of these people had little to no understanding of it.
They voted for Clinton because he went on stage and talked to poor people and said "I feel your pain" suggesting that he had ways to improve the economy and make their lives better.
Long story short -- what Clinton and his cronies did is the opposite of what he was elected to do. And he had very good reason to assume 20 years from when he instituted NAFTA -- that would be the case.
It's fine though, because by then technology will bail us out right? Well this is what people in power tend to assume. Just put it off until the options get better via technology.

The point is -- the logic of our system -- a representative democracy -- requires that these tools
represent those that elect them. Not come up with ways to con them, lead them by the nose, and enrich themselves.
