it's because we want pre-canned repsonses as a shortcut than having to do the labor of actually engaging, because this comes at the cost of people's free time, energy, etc. everyone's guilty of doing it, myself included. it's draining to constantly engage, and it takes it's toll emotionally and mentally, so those box shortcuts is a self defense mechanism that's difficult to break through. sometimes you just gotta be genuine and try and reach someone beyond the box. and maybe you'll get through, or maybe you won't. maybe they'll both have some pseudo catharsis and/or just go back to their usual bullshit. /shrug
