that's such a hilariously bad reach im surprised you didn't pull a muscle. their concern is stopping fascists before they can reach a platform of power, because once they have said platform, they twist it to their gain and take away any peaceful means of retaliation. fascists don't reciprocate "liberal democracy", they take advantage of it, so they avoid it entirely because it just submits rather than resist. and again, doing nothing in the face of evil makes you as culpable. this isn't hard to understand.
