College is economic protectionism for highly skilled fields. It's fine for Doctors and lawyers. Not cool for just about everyone else.
I failed out of IT in college but excelled in my MOS at the top. Because in college they just wanted to sell branded systems. In the field, I was able to teach because I was fluent and able to adapt to new software and hardware on the fly. While reverse engineering Frankensteined systems to fix them, or make them do new stuff.
It was supposed to be an entirely scholarly or acedemic pursuit for the already affluent with free time. Not a means to net a decent living wage.
This is why I say if you want to go to school and get a useless but enlightening degree. Do the liberal arts. Or go to an art school and make a brand.
