With as slow as the early game used to be, it was a joke from Verant that their servers were so old, it took hamsters in cages to run them. The other excuse was So-and-S0 (Whoever the lead developer was at the time) spilled his morning coffee on the "server" and caused a short. I did. Pre Kunark. The "joke" was every bit as puerile then. <shrug> I asked mainly for curiosity, since eqemulator.org was down at the same time - wondered if it was some larger issue.
