That basic idea has already been done, and not even just once, but multiple times. I don't think anyone has ever done it specifically for an iPad, but here's what they

Of course, those tools don't use the wiki maps ... but really if you're wanting something like that I think you want a dedicated window anyway, not a wiki page.
