If you don't find luck doing this, try the following nuclear route:
  1. Delete the file EverQuest\UI_yourname_P1999Green.ini
  2. Delete the folder EverQuest\uifiles\velious
  3. Recopy the files from the patch 52 zip file to your EverQuest directory
  4. Launch the game again and enjoy
