They did what I call a "Zero Value" nerf. The item now has Zero (or near-zero) Value. It's equivalent to as retroactively removing all instances of the item from the game and it no longer dropping. The only difference is the optics - you get to keep your useless wands and take up invo space with them.
Disable use on raid targets, and give it a 1-2 second cast time. Another interesting option is making it lore. In either case, it wouldn't be a total loss for someone with wands. But as it stands - total loss.
At least I got video proof of being #1 DPS character serverwide... it was worth it =D
