Play the class and race that you love the most. There is only a few classes and race combinations that are really GARBAGE, and even those in the end are just fine.

Really you want to play for maximum love of your own character and persona because in the end you get way more out of that than the pixels.

Be who you want to be.

If you want to min max be an ogre and any of its classes,

If you want to min max a monk or necro be an iksar

If you want to min max a rogue be a barbarian

those ones are all really easy.

The rest of the classes it doesn't make much difference what race you are. And even for all of the above you can and should choose a race you like best or home city you like best rather than one you hate just for the minmax.



Go with your heart, 1000%

You don't need help at all from level 1. Roll with whatever players that happen to be near you and enjoy the experience. Don't make long travels to optimise your leveling up unless you actually want to make the trip just for fun. The best way to is to go with the flow, and when you are tired of an area, leave it.

The best part of the game is exploring new spots and learning their dangers. Nothing beats deep dungeon crawling with a robust group of committed explorers.

When you're way past the point of no return and if your group forgets about that random wanderer you're all guaranteed to wipe and have to deal with like 2 hours of corpse recovery...thats the peak.

Also when you just cruise around your starter zone. That rules too. EQ rocks



You can level ALL characters with minimal effort with ZERO armor other than what you find all around you throughout the game. Don't listen to psychos that want to get you to level 60 ASAP so you can wait in line for loot like them. Misery loves company.
