My grampa went for a night on the town on the coast in Africa.
The next day he was terribly ill and not allowed to board his ship. The ship he had been scheduled to be on ended up getting torpedoed. The nurse who took care of him became his wife. Crazy times.
My other grampa stationed around Egypt got bet he couldn't swim across the Red Sea with a lit pipe in his mouth. He did it. Later he got caught snooping around he shouldn't and got shot thru both lungs and the spleen. Got triaged to be left to die as they thought he only had minutes left to live. 15 mins later he's still alive and somehow he manages to survive.
Absolute madlads, the both of them. Respect to all those affected by war this Remembrance day.
