For a first toon most people say Necromancer, my problem is that with my necromancer, I am having issues with 2 bandits killing my level 12 pet, then owning me. The first dies, then the other finishes me. In short the necro pet is gimp.
Does this get better after Feign death? I mean I own single mobs, but at the same level I own the same spot with my magician. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I'm a new player as well, but I believe pets have a level range of like +-2. So, when you summon your pet, if you plan to do a challenging fight, then you have to first attack some green cons with your pet and see what the pet max swing damage is. This will give you an idea of its level. There may be a way to look it up, but I just learn roughly the max swing ranges for each new tier of pet I get. Then I dismiss and re-summon any pets that are not max level or max level -1. This makes a HUGE difference in how much damage they take and deal
The other secret with pets is to give them a rusty 2handed weapon. It can be literally anything, it doesn't matter, but it must be a 2hander. This will nearly double their damage at the same swing speed (there seems to be some kind of bug where they hold it in 1hand). You want to always keep a rusty 2hander weapon that mobs drop in one of your bags for your next pet if weight allows. Or else keep an eye out for wandering low con mobs to see if any of them are holding a 2handed weapon you can kill and get. Once you start equipping a 2hander on your pet, you will never want to go back. It literally will double if not more, your pet's damage. Although I hear it stops working eventually around level 20
