Who're you kidding? Main reason for it is because "red america" votes differently than "blue america" does. Humans are fundamentally tribal creatures. We're programmed to distrust or dislike anything different. Acceptance and live-and-let-live is something of an artificial mindset that runs contrary to our base instinct and must be consciously maintained. I expect folks who have a liberal mindset to do better in this respect because historically they ARE better at it. I don't particularly want to see a new form of bigotry become defacto a-okay simply because it's forgotten/unnoticed due to the efforts to reduce bigotry or hate directed towards other groups.
Notably your own post, in spite of its tone, is at least tolerably civil so I have no specific issue with it. Nobody's saying you have to like me.
