EQ isn't designed for PvP but it's still better with it these days, because it adds some necessary danger and amount of thinking that the game is supposed to have.
There is no real competition on Blue servers. Being the first to click is not any kind of meaningful achievement. PvE is supposed to be about learning the zones and encounters, interacting with the environment, figuring out how to play the game mechanics optimally. All of that has been figured out ages ago. PvE is empty of its meaning now, and just the threat of PvP (not even doing it, but just being prepared for it) is the only thing that adds something dynamic to the way the game is coded.
